ShowXpress dongle

ShowXpress refers to lighting control software and a hardware interface, the dongle, manufactured by Chauvet.

The software is available for Windows and Mac OS X, and is free to download from the Chauvet website.

Quick Start

ShowXpress is installed on several of Ents' computers. If you wish to use another machine, there are further instructions below.

  1. Connect the ShowXpess dongle to DMX and your computer
  2. Lauch the ShowXpress software. The splash screen should say that the interface has been found; if it does not, refer to the Troubleshooting steps below.
  3. From the <File> menu, choose <Open Lightshow>, and select the lightshow folder.
  4. The show should be loaded and on your screen. Test by pressing some of the buttons.

Getting ShowXpress

The ShowXpress software is free to download for Windows and Mac from the Chauvet website. Our showfile only works reliably with ShowXpress version 7, so be sure to download the correct version.

Once the software is downloaded, unzip and install it.

Now plug in the USB flashdrive labelled "ShowXpress". This flash drive contains a copy of our showfile, so copy it to your computer - you need to take the entire folder.

You may now unplug the USB drive and follow the instructions in the Quick Start section to load and run the show.

Troubleshooting

  • Check that the fixtures in Club 601 are powered. They should always be powered, but you can check this by looking for the displays on the back of the LED battens.
  • Check that you are using the correct version of ShowXpress: Some lightshows may be created under V8, and this will be included in their filenames; do not use a V8 showfile on ShowXpress V7.
  • Check that live DMX connect is enabled on ShowXpress: in the top right corner of the window, just above the master fader, there will be an icon representing an XLR connector. There should be a green bar under the icon; if it is red, click it to change to green
  • Check that the dongle is connected and recognised by ShowXpress: the "PC" light should be green on the dongle, and you should connect before you launch the software. If necessary, check the USB connect and relaunch the software.
