Hazers are designed to produce unobtrusive, homogeneous clouds of smoke to make beams from lights more visible - particularly impressive with intricate gobos & an absolute must if lasers are in use. This is different to a smoke machine, which is designed to produce a billowing cloud of smoke from a single point, maybe to accent a single performer or provide a stage effect. Haze also differs to smoke in that it remains in the air for a long time, upwards of an hour depending on ventilation in the venue. However it also takes a while for enough haze to build up for beams to become visible, so ideally the hazer should be switched on at least 20 minutes before doors open for the event.

The JEM ZR24/7 can be controlled by DMX (though control is somewhat unintuitive) or by its built in timer feature, for example: run for 30 seconds, followed by 30 seconds off.

The hazer is usually one of the last things to be remembered to get rigged when setting up for a bop, but because it only needs connecting to the mains via an IEC lead, it doesn't take long. It has hanging points to attach it to a ceiling or truss, though because this makes replacing the fluid somewhat difficult it is usually just sat on steps or flightcases on the front of the stage.

When "Hot" is set to "Hi", a haze is created, which floats in the air. "Lo" fluids create a fog effect, hugging the floor. For a typical bop, haze fluid is more often used.

When changing the bottle of hazer fluid, be careful that you load the correct fluid type. The bottle should be labelled with "For Hazer Use Only" and the operating temperature ("Hot = ...").
