Before rigging a fixture, it is useful to check that it works on the ground. This saves us going through the effort of rigging the fixture in the air and then discovering that it does not work.

To flash test a lamp, the following procedure should be followed:

  • Power the fixture - either by 16A for moving heads, or 15A from the dimmers for generics.
  • Open any shutters or barn doors the fixture may have
  • Turn on the power
  • If the fixture is a moving head, the lamp may need manually struck from the menu.

Check if the fixture has powered on and if the lamp has lit correctly.

If the fixture is a moving head, find the test option in the menu, and select it. Check all the colour and gobo wheels and frost/prism effects activate correctly.

If the lamp did light and any extra checks completed successfully, this fixture is good to use. Get rigging!
